Cibo: The Mall Temptation

I hate shopping! Really1. You’re walking around the mall, there’s nothing to look at, things are pretty expensive nowadays2, and then your back gives out on you.  It really makes walking around the mall a drag.

Suddenly, you pass by the shops and there’s this fragrant smell coming out one of the spaces. Makes you go, “Damn, I want that!”  So I find myself inside the middle of the 2nd level of the Shangri-La Plaza Mall, ordering from Cibo.

On more than one occasion, I’ve mentioned that I love home-made iced teas.  And I’ve been hearing Cibo’s is actually pretty good.  I ordered the Te Freddo Menta3 and the Te Freddo Pesca4.  Both were pretty good, but the mint can be overpoweringly sweet if you don’t mix the iced tea well.  The peach iced tea was better.

We ordered an appetizer, but the pizza actually came first.  Now that I think about it, it actually came at the end5.

The pizza we ordered was the Prosciutto di Parma, which was tomato, mozzarella, Parma Ham, arugula, and parmesan.  The crust was a bit hard to chew, but I still enjoyed this dish.  Sauce was a bit dry and the cheese was not really gooey.  Normally, this would be a thumbs down for me, but I really, really love the Parma Ham.  It was salty, really thinly sliced, and pretty good! Forget the arugula and the cheeses, the Parma Ham alone made that dish! Then again, I’m a sucker for cured meat.

For our pasta course, we picked the Linguine La Foresta.  It’s your basic linguine with very light tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, black olives, and slices of bacon.  Pretty good, but there was almost no bacon.  This is served with bread.  Just break them up and dip it in the pasta sauce! Serves about 2 people.

Presentation was good, made it look like it’s bigger than it actually is6.  They bring out the dish with big chunk of wood7.

The appetizer finally came! We ordered the Spinaci Zola, which is a spinach gorgonzola.  I never thought I’d say this but in the words of Homer Simpson, “MMmmm, Spinach….”  I’m basically a carnivore, but this was good.  Really good.

Spinaci Zola (P235.00 or $5.20)

Overall, a very satisfying meal.  And I still can’t get enough for that Parma Ham!
