Banapple Pies and Cheesecakes

I used to study in that school along Katipunan — the one with the gym with a big rooster1 on it. It’s been a while and I can’t remember how many times I’ve been told that I graduated too soon because of this new restaurant called Banapple.  I’ve tried it since then, but I don’t exactly miss the drive to and from the Katipunan. Good thing for me is that they opened up a branch in Greenhills. But don’t let me stop you from going to either of the Katipunan branches.

Banapple2 is really known for its signature Banoffee Pie and its other desserts. Thing is, I’m not a big dessert guy.  So what reeled me in? Believe it or not, it’s the rice. Turns out, even if you don’t order a single dessert, you can get a really decent meal in Banapple.

Each entree comes with the aforementioned seasoned garlic rice. A good place to start would be one of their best sellers: Salpicao Rafael, rib-eye steak cubes with sliced mushrooms, garlic, and their special brown sauce. Not the greatest salpicao, not the best cut of meat, not the best sauce, but not bad at all.

Salpicao Rafael (P190.00 or $4.20)

Other good options are the Chicken Breast Parmigiano, Hickory Smoked Barbecued Country Ribs, Bacon Fried Chicken Steaks with Milk’Shroom Gravy3.  Can’t go wrong with any of these, but I preferred the BBQ Ribs.

Full Plate of Salpicao Rafael (L); Top Right: Chicken Breast Parmigiano (P185.00 or $4.10), Middle Right: Hickory Smoked Barbecued Country Ribs (P185.00 or $4.10), Bottom Right: Bacon Fried Chicken Steaks with Milk’shroom Gravy (P175.00 or $3.90)

Their Home Made Iced Tea isn’t the usual Nestea Iced Tea4 you get in restaurants. Again, not the best, but not half bad at all.

And being in a place famous for its desserts, you have to get one. They have a wide selection, but we ended up with a slice of Strawberry Crunch Cheesecake. I found it too sweet and the crust was too hard.  I had the Banoffee Pie a while back, but it’s not my favorite thing in the world.

Top Left: Cake Selection, Middle Left: Strawberry Crunch Cheesecake (Slice – P100.00 or $2.20 / Whole – P950.00 or $21.10), Bottom Left: Entrance; Right: Home Made Iced Tea (P60.00 or $1.30)

I’m not too upset that I graduated before Banapple opened up it Katipunan. I was probably too cheap5 to shell out more than 60 bucks for a meal.  But if you look at it, the prices at Banapple are fairly reasonable and you can a really decent meal! And for the non-cheap students, that’s pretty much all you really ask for.

  1. I am now totally in love with Banapple! I love their Banoffee Pie and the Chicken Parmigiano I recently. Oh, and their baked fish too. Cheesy! :D

    • Looking at the chicken parmigiano across my seat made me wish I had ordered that dish. Interesting about the baked fish. I’ll try that next time. :)

  2. Friends are raving about banapple. and that made me travel from rizal to katipunan. yeah, lasagna was good as well as the parmigiano but for me, nothings special to it. lets just say, nahuli lang nila ang panlasang pinoy. parang mas sosyal na jollibee.. :)

    • Hi Tina,

Haha funny analogy. Although I wouldn’t go as far as that. But you’re right, Banapple’s a bit overrated. Wala pa silang pantapat sa Chicken Joy :D

  3. my favorite <3 their cakes are addicting!
