Fruit Magic SM Mezza Residences

My first encounter with Fruit Magic was at Fitness First gym, ABS-CBN.  I thought it was actually part of the Fitness First franchise – after all, it was fruity and magical, just like how many of the gym’s alternative-preference clientele would describe themselves.  I hadn’t been to a Fruit Magic in a long time, until we checked out the SM Mezza Residences branch.

I wasn’t really hungry, but I have a soft spot for Fruit Magic, so I ordered basic Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  For some reason, Fruit Magic’s food always seems fresh, and this branch was no exception.  The bread was toasted perfectly, the cheese was melted beautifully, and everything just came together like, well, magic jeje.

Lester went for the Beefy Tomato, a pasta dish that was highly recommended by his friends.  It didn’t disappoint.  The thing I like about Fruit Magic is that while the fare is filling, you don’t feel all greasy and saturated afterwards.  The food has a freshness to it that makes it fun to eat.  It’s like comfort food with none of the after-eating regrets comfort food is known for.  The Beefy Tomato was a perfect example.  It tasted fresh, there was good balance of flavors, and it was enjoyable to eat.

I used to order this all the time when I was in college, the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich.  It’s got good flavor to it, the chicken is cooked  well, the lettuce is fresh, and the bread is perfectly toasted.  Of course, as healthy as “salad” sounds, keep in mind that it’s still got a ton of Caesar salad dressing.  It sounds healthy, it tastes healthy, and hell, it probably IS healthy.  In controlled, moderate amounts, anyway.

Of course, it won’t be Fruit Magic without some juices.  Lester got the Strawberry Mango.  It’s a weird combination, but it works.  I like how they don’t rely too much on syrups like other similar restos.  You can also see them prepare your juices and shakes, so you know nobody’s giving you a little extra fluids in there, if you know what I mean.  Bottom line, the juice tastes good, and it’s CLEAN.

The Tuna Sandwich was just OK, but I’m pretty biased against tuna.  I hate the stuff, unless it’s raw and Japanese.  Quality-wise, it was good, but tuna really doesn’t agree with me.  Just one of those things.

Overall, it was a pretty good dining experience.  Let’s be honest, it’s not a 5-star hotel.  Don’t expect fancy flavors or gourmet ingredients or anything of that sort.  BUT the food will be fresh, it’ll taste good, and you’ll get your money’s worth.  It’s a decent restaurant, a great restaurant for the price, unlike Ersao, which basically serves swill.  Just keeping it real!
