Stackers Burger Cafe

I get excited whenever there’s a new burger joint in town1.  So there are very few things better than ending my illegal DVD window shopping day with burgers.  Not that I buy pirated DVD’s2.

Stackers Burger Cafe is supposedly an Australian-based joint.  I’m not exactly sure if it’s a local franchise or something, but the burgers are said to be made with 100% Australian Beef — “Auss’m” as their tag line says.  They have a wide selection of burgers and other items like — chucks (chicken), fries, soup, etc.

First, the Clam Chowder and Spaghetti Bolognese.  I remember it being really cheap, but that’s how the quality is as well.  Suffice to say, I’m not ordering these again.  Soup was overly salty, spaghetti was probably on the level of Jolli Spaghetti-bad.

I got an order of Shaker Chooks.  I know the name sounds corny, but Chook Bites are essentially fun size chicken tenders.  Translation?  They’re trying compete with KFC‘s Hot Shots, it’s not even close.  The “Shaker” reference is the fact that these bites are served in a bag with powdered flavoring like Fiery Jalapeno, Lip Smacking Sour Cream and Cheddar, Zesty Lemon and Pepper.  I got the jalapeno variety, but it doesn’t matter because it was bad.  The chicken was bland and the powdered flavoring had … well, no flavor.  Oh, and I’m sure it’s really healthy for you, too3.

But I was really here for the burgers.  As I said, they had a lot of flavors like Pepper burger or Philly Cheesesteak type; I still chose to go the plain-ish route because I felt we came to really taste their burger.  I tried a Stack Cheese Burger, which is a burger with a single beef patty, lettuce, mayonnaise, tomato slices, onion bits, American Cheese, and a burger sauce.  Apparently, you can choose your sauce between Tex Mex, Pepper Steak, Stackers Original, or Aussie Beef Sauce.  I didn’t know.  I presume I got the Stackers Original.

The patty wasn’t bad at all.  I just have some reservations if it really was 100% beef.  It doesn’t look as appetizing as the menu (which is always the case), but (1) I’ve had worse burgers and (2) they’re not steamed.  The price was pretty fair and it wasn’t that cheap fast food burger that we’re used to.

Add another P65.00 (or $1.45) and you get fries and a drink with your meal.  The fries were OK, but not great.  I doubt if they’re fresh cut / real potatoes vs. the processed kind.  The iced tea wasn’t bad at all.  I was surprised by how un-Nestea it was.  Not that sweet at all.

And the service at the Metrowalk branch was great as well.  Seriously.  Won’t bother you when you don’t ask, then extremely accommodating and hard-working if you call.  I could do without the mosquitoes, but there’s always take out.  Which I just did — The Massive (double patty and double cheese) burger for P215.00 (or $4.77).  The name is a bit overused, but I hear that a lot jeje.
